Welcome back everybody. I'm sorry that I haven't posted in the past couple of weeks, but I'm here and ready to roll. If you are a sports fan, then you know that the big event around the world right now is the 2014 FIFA World Cup. For the most part, this is one of the few times where Americans get excited about soccer. Now I know many people who enjoy soccer year round, but it's no secret that many people including myself just are not interested unless it's a big world event. With thinking like this, it has me wondering if the USA will ever one day achieve world power status for soccer. I know that the US National team has improved plenty over the last ten years, but I think that it is going to take a deep run in this year's cup to gain power status. Another thing I have heard that America lacks is an elite developmental program. From what I have read or seen on TV, we are miles away from having the programs that Spain or Brazil have and until we get something close to what they have, we will continue to be a "mid-major" in International Soccer. Me personally, I am not much of a soccer fan, but I will always cheer my countrymen on in all events. With that said, I hope we can achieve world power status in soccer.
For this week's Beer of the Week, I am bringing to you Mermaid Pilsner by Coney Island Brewing Company in Brooklyn, NY (Where Brooklyn AT?). As mentioned in the title, Mermaid Pilsner is a pilsner that is light bodied with a good kick of hops. The beer also has tastes of Rye malt and fruit like aromas that are common in hoppy beers. I bought a six pack of this and at first I wasn't too fond of the beer. Once I popped open the second and third beer, I thought it was an easier taste. When it comes down to it, if I'm drinking a pilsner, I don't want the hops and fruits to be the main taste, but this is definitely easy enough to drink when it's hot out. On the keg scale, I give this beer 3.5 kegs out of 5. However, I will give this a try again the next time I make my way to NY.
In closing, I would like to dedicate this week's blog entry to my grandfather Constant Denni, who recently passed away. It's hard to put into words what he was, but I'll give it a shot. To family, he was a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother who loved us all and taught us well. To everyone else, he was the Captain. The one you can count on and the one who would go out of his way to help his family, friends, and church. What many don't know is that he saved my life when I just a little kid and if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here today. Beebah, I know you're up in Heaven fishing, drinking a cold one, and we will miss you. However, like I said to you before. This isn't goodbye. It's see you later.
Take Care Everyone. Drink Responsibly and Enjoy your Beer.
