To pay college athletes or not pay college athletes? That seems to be one of the hottest questions in all of sports today. As of this week, this issue has reached a whole new level. For those who are not aware, the National Labor Relations Board just ruled on Wednesday that Northwestern University football players are employees of the university rather than being student-athletes and that they have the ability to vote on becoming an union. While this does not guarantee that the forming of the union will result in players lobbying to get paid to play, this does create a whole new platform for players to fight for pay. Like many of you reading this, I had to pay to go to college (and I'm still paying after graduating). Because of that, it makes it hard to really feel for student-athletes who are on full scholarships while in school. At the same time, I can understand the feeling some student-athletes have that are putting their necks on the line each athletic event while the school can make millions in revenue of their performance. Now it should be noted that not all schools or sports end their year making profit. The schools making profits are schools such as Texas or Michigan and the main money making college sport is football. Me personally, I believe that getting your college paid for to play a sport you love is a sweet deal, but I'll also never know what it is like to play in front of 50,000 fans wearing a jersey that has my number on it and know I won't see any of the profits from it directly. So what do you all think on this issue?
And now for the beer of the week. This week I have decided to keep it simple and chose a beer that will gear everyone up for the warm weather we hope for everyday. The beer I have selected is Summer Ale by Samuel Adams. This beer is a golden ale that is light in color that has a light, smooth, citrus taste. Like all summer beers, this beer is intended to be an easy drink that you can enjoy in warm environments. Hell, it even tastes great when it's cold too. This beer should be making it's way in all stores now and it is available through the summer. On a scale of 1 to 5 kegs, I give Summer Ale 5 Kegs! If you want to read more into this beer you can visit www.samueladams.com.
That is all for this week. Until next time, Drink Responsibly and Enjoy your Beer!
