Welcome back folks. Sorry for the hiatus last week, but here we are. A few weeks ago, I attended my first ever UFC event in Baltimore and it was amazing. Watching exciting fights is one thing, but seeing them in person makes it that much better. After seeing the fights, it gave me the conclusion that the UFC has surpassed boxing as the best fighting sport. I know that as long as boxing has Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, boxing will be able to draw the biggest crowd possible for a fight, but I believe that the UFC is more consistent and is capable of providing the big time fights. For years boxing has hoped for a Pac-Man vs. Money showdown, but no fight has surfaced because of drug tests, promoters, money, etc. Meanwhile, the UFC has kept all big name fighters under one promotion and had the best in each division fight each other. Another thing that I believe helps the UFC is amount of fights shown for free along with the fights they have on PPV. While most of the big names in the UFC are on PPV (i.e. Jon Bones Jones & Anderson Silva), you still have the chance to see high end fighters fight on Fox and Fox Sports One. In boxing, your 2 main options to see fights are PPV and HBO/Showtime. A lot of times, the HBO/Showtime fights aren't even live. With all of this going for the UFC, I believe that they will be firmly ahead of boxing as the premier fighting sport to watch.
This week for the Beer of the Week, I am breaking down X Double Indian Pale Ale by Middle Ages Brewing Company in Syracuse, NY. The name alone indicates that this is a strong beer and the 10% ABV backs that up. For those still learning different types of beers, India Pale Ales or IPA's are beers that typically have a golden body, but pack more than normal amounts of hops. A little history lesson, IPA's historically were made with excessive amounts of hops so they could maintain flavor and taste on long trips (i.e England to India). Now that the lesson is over, lets get back to X Double. As I mentioned, this beer is 10% ABV and that is because this beer has 10 additions of American hops during it's brewing process. If you are an IPA drinker, this beer is definitely up your alley. When trying this beer, the initial taste was pretty smooth, but the hops aroma definitely kicked in during the aftertaste. If you ever get this beer, you will definitely be good to go with 1 or 2 unless you are trying to go all out. On a scale of 1 to 5 kegs, I give X Double IPA 3 1/2 kegs. If you want more info about this beer, you can visit middleagesbrewing.com.
Well that is all for this week. Until next time, Drink Responsibly and Enjoy your Beer.
