Welcome back Jabronis. This week I'd like to recap my memory of tastings at the 13th Annual Virginia Beer Festival in Norfolk this past weekend. This event is a great kickoff to summer and you typically get to see everyone in prime form. This year there were over 80 different breweries and even some craft ciders in the tasting lineup. Since the festival is in VA, of course there were plenty of VA breweries included. A couple of the standouts from VA were Young Veteran's Brewing Company from Virginia Beach and Devil's Backbone from Roseland, VA. Some of the out of state breweries that I thought were good included DuClaw Brewing (MD), Natty Green's (NC), and Magic Hat (VT). At the end of the day, I can't give you a breakdown of every single beer because, well I drank a lot (but didn't get arrested). What I do know is that the beer fest included a lot of lagers, pale ales, and IPA's. There were also some stouts, amber ales, and porters, but the stronger percentage beers ruled the day. Aside from the 11 and 12 percent beers that are designated to knock you out, I thought that overall the beers were good tasting. The trick is to get to Beerfest early so you can try what you really want before the lines get crazy, then you drink the beer of whatever tables have little to no lines. If you didn't make this Beerfest, don't worry because there are plenty of festivals that take place throughout the summer including the National Beer Expo in Richmond from July 15-20. Now, if you are skipping out on these festivals on purpose, well you have to re-evaluate your decisions.
Well That is all for this week. Until next time, Drink Responsibly and Enjoy your Beer.
